LATE AUTUMN 2023

I’ve been having a lot of fun in a Mendocino College painting class taught by department head Lisa Rosenstreich. Here are a dozen quick small studies (in the 8” to 14” range, under three hours each) solving specific problems she posed, each of us working from tableaux we created on an individual theme (mine was Things I’ve Been Given).
I should mention that I have ten of my mixed media portraits, done earlier this year, on the wall and priced to sell ($40-70) at Medium Gallery here in Ukiah. Here’s a link to the post with most of those

Late Summer 2023

My art studio time so far this year has been affected by two knee replacements that limited my ability to sit and draw for weeks at a time, and knocked out months of painting time because of limited mobility (I like to dance at the easel and often carry brushes between the studio and bathroom to clean them).

However I have done two 30 Faces/30 Days drawing challenges and have completed five portraits in oils that reflect both of my interests: deeply engaging with the subject and mindfully creating a unique limited palette to bring each to harmonious life.

As I write this update, I’m in deep conversation with another local artist I deeply like and respect with an eye to major three or four artist collaboration to occupy most of 2024, and looking forward to rejoining art classes at Mendocino College.

Late Spring 2023: Pictures at an Exhibition

My show is up at the Ukiah Public Library through June 29, during their open hours. These are photos from the show taken during the May First Friday Artwalk: there will be another reception during the June First Friday Artwalk.

The show was organized in collaboration with Library staffers Jen and Rosie. Music was graciously provided by polymath cellist Clovice Lewis.

With this series completed, I will spend the summer into early fall painting and drawing while contemplating the next project.
